I cook the cabbage at the terminate. Cut it in wedges and cooked seperately from the meat. I use ane/2 cooking liquid from the meat and i/2 chicken broth with butter added to the liquid. Cooked until just crisp tender. Gives the cabbage a lovely flavor, information technology stays green and doesn't go all mushy.

This recipe is very good equally written and is very like shooting fish in a barrel to make. I always similar to read the reviews and make the recipe the original fashion and then again and tweek to reviews as needed, I like helpful constructive reviews. The only frustrating thing is when people change the whole recipe. They should transport in their own. Tracey did non even annotate on this recipe,(not sure if she tried it) put hers in the reviews and said her family will only consume hers. That is great but I feel it is a disrespectful to the persons recipe. Please send in slight changes to help usa, do not rewrite. Thanks

Absolutely delicious. I started out by cooking this on the stove superlative as the recipe states (for about 45 minutes) merely due to a family emergency, I had to leave the house. Before leaving, I put the meat and liquid into my crock pot. Past the fourth dimension I got home, the meat was perfectly cooked (45 minutes on stove, then seven hours in crock pot for an almost 3 lb. roast). I took the advice of some other reviewers and added one/ii stick of butter to the liquid as the meat cooked and I also used beefiness broth instead of water. The next day on the stovetop I cooked the cabbage, carrots and potatoes in the liquid the meat cooked in the night before. When the vegetalbes were done, I added the meat back into the liquid but to warm it. It was SOOOOOO good!! I will definitely make this again!!

Fantastic! I take always kind of "winged" information technology with corned beefiness and cabbage, with varying degrees of success. I read many of the reviews and added a bottle of beer to the water to simmer the meat in. WOW! This is it! From now on, no more winging it! For spices, I used the parcel seasonings, some minced garlic. Added unpeeled red potatoes, onion slices, babe carrots and of grade cabbage wedges.

this is my first fourth dimension making corned beef and cabbage, and my fiance and i thought it was terrfic, the meat was very tender and juicy while the vegetables was absolutley superb & tasty. The corned beefiness was 3.75 lbs that came along with the spice packet, instead of h2o i used beef broth, added 6 large cloves of garlic, 1 big white onion cut up into wedges, 2 bay leaves, 12 whole peppercorns, ten small scarlet potatoes/carrots, 3 tbls of butter to bring out the richness of taste ... all in a crockpot -- information technology took me eight hours to melt this dinner and information technology was worth every minute of it.

I did non have to cook this recipe, this is the same as my grandpa always made it. To the people out the writing reviews calculation beefiness broth and what not . . THIS IS Non Beefiness STEW! IT IS Not SUPPOSED TO TASTE LIKE Information technology. If you change the recipe so you are making something else. This is exactly how you brand Irish gaelic corned beefiness and cabbage. If you modify it, then you are making something else.

Jeepers, it needs onions! Everything except desserts needs onions!
03/17/2013
This will be the fouth fourth dimension using this recipe and it is unproblematic and yummy. The pocket-sized changes I do is cut up the potatoes and use small carrots that I don't take to cut or peel. I don't empathize why the nearly helpful review on hither does non follow this recipe at ALL! Please post your own recipe and let people review it. I find it NOT helpful to me when reading reviews. If you add together Beef broth, brown sugar, mushrooms, onions, even beer. I can understand ane or two changes but all that is something different then Corned beef and cabbage.

Cheers once again for a wonderful recipe but thanks also to all who write these neat reviews. Information technology is so nice to read what cooks think of the dish they make. Yesterday I made this Corned Beef & Cabbage & in my 45 years married to wonderful Irish husband he tells his Italian married woman that it was the best yet. WOW! What is funny to me about Allrecipes.com is that at present whenever I come up up with a new dish, friends or family unit will say: Allrecipe.com?? They know me past now. The reviews helped so much on these recipes. The problem I had with this is that there were no spice packets in the pkg. so I just did my own matter…iv garlic cloves, crushed, pepper corns, mustard corns, two bay leaves, pepper, dry out mustard & the only change I fabricated was adding bottle of beer. When the beefiness was done I put information technology in a dish, covered with foil. Then cooked my veggies in those wonderful juices till not quite washed. When they were washed I put them in a dish with broth, covered with foil & put in a warm oven till I was ready to serve. Sliced my cooled down beefiness, put in a thirteen X ix dish covered with foil put in oven till ready to serve. I did brand the Horseradish sauce and it was very adept as well, but I found that information technology was cold next to the nice hot corned beefiness. I'm sticking to Grey Poupon….Also a little sprinkle of white vinegar on cabbage is great. Besides helps with any problem that may occur after!! ? Outstanding!! Wow…great recipe. Thanks Laria and thank you all with the smashing reviews. Nana Happy St. Patrick'due south D

All-time Corned Beef and Cabbage Always!! I didn't change a matter and it turned out perfect!! Super simple recipe with amazing results! YUM
12/22/2009
Straightforward recipe that turned out a tasty boiled dinner. The only thing I'd do differently next fourth dimension is skim the pinnacle once it boils the first time and then add the spices.
01/28/2004
I executed the recipe as is (can't truly rate it otherwise can you?) and was thoroughly pleased with the results. Timing is very subjective of class, depending on the the kind of pot y'all utilize (enamelled iron, steel...), your stovetop (gas, electric, element of group vii...) or oven (regular, convection...), but the times given in the original recipe are a very good judge - just remember that tenderness is what you aim for. My just addition was a generous swirl of sweet butter in the strained goop earlier serving; it adds a lovely richness to the sauce. Eight thumbs up (there were four of u.s.a.)!
03/16/2006
This is the way it'due south done. We always told my female parent to brand extra veggie's because nosotros knew what was coming the next solar day and that was the best part. The side by side day was cold sliced corned beef and my mother'south vegetable fry. She would chop upwards all the leftover potatoes, carrots and cabbage and fry up in a well seasoned iron skillet.. what she used as base, butter I recall, she would allow melt until it got crispy, so plow and exercise again. To this mean solar day, I can not indistinguishable but proceed trying. Try it you will love it. A medley of season..
03/10/2010
I've been doing it this way for over thirty years. In the last half hr I'll pull the brisket from the pot, put it in a roaster and cover it with 1/4 cup of brown sugar and place covered in the oven with only a pocket-size amt of juice in the bottom. The dark-brown sugar will melt and create a wonderful glaze for the corned beefiness. While the beef is in the oven I'll use the liquid in the pot for the veges and so I'll too add a layer of dumplings to the top after the veges begin to eddy. Luv it then much that I do it more than just Patty's Day

The perfect simple Corned Beef recipe. There'south plenty of ways to prepare this meat, merely if you desire simple and succulent just follow forth and you lot won't be disappointed. I am usually a recipe "modder" I seem to always be adjusting quantities and adding things. Notwithstanding lately I take been just trying recipes as they are written to detect out how the author likes it. This one was fantastic! I was very skeptical of the simplicity, but wow it merely was great! Cheers alot!

Groovy recipe. added tracey hint: I take the corned beefiness out and while the cabbage carrots and pot'due south are cooking in the liquid, I put the brisket in the oven for xxx minutes with this sauce that I combine on the stove until smooth. 1/3 cup of brownish sugar,ii tblsp of butter tlbs. of prepared mustard, 1/3 cup of ketchup, and three tblsp of apple cider vinegar. I combine these ingredients till smooth, and then pour over the brisket while the veggies are cooking. thirty to 40 mins. at 350 will do information technology. Hope yous like it, all of my friends who detest corned beef will only consume mine!

Lovely people, This recipe is wonderful written 'equally is' - but I'd like to speak to those of you who are aggravated about people irresolute upward the recipe and then rating it, since 'changing it up' actually doesn't give you lot an accurate review of the recipe as written. I have this to offer: Some of us use what's on-paw rather than going out and buying ingredients specific to the recipe. I notice this very helpful on occasion because 1) you might not have to become shopping if yous use the substitutes or 2) you lot tin can learn a different way to utilise a spice or other ingredient - which only makes y'all a better cook. Also - I've plant a few recipe reviewers who accept taken allergies into consideration. Sometimes those 'alter ups' can be invaluable and save time when you don't have to scour the Net trying to notice a way to omit a certain ingredient but nonetheless get the full effect of the dish. I, too, am sometimes frustrated with the review system - just if yous try to understand where the reviewer is coming from, sometimes you tin can make a 'only okay' dish into something completely out of your original realm of thinking. Tolerance, folks ... merely by the mere fact that people take the fourth dimension to review dishes, fifty-fifty if they do change them a bit, shows they intendance enough to share their information with yous. Happy cooking!

I add together one more step (delicious) after you remove the corned beef from the liquid, brush the top with regular prepared mustard and then add a thin layer of calorie-free brown suger on top of the mustard, put into a 350 oven for about thirty min.
04/03/2012
I fixed this 4 times in March. I exercise believe that it is the best Corned beef and Cabbage recipe. I have a very adept Irish friend of 75 yrs onetime and she told me it was the best she ever had...and preceded to tell information technology to the owners of a 100 year old Irish deli and store. I cooked it in but guiness beer and beef goop. Added peppercorns, bay leaf and onions. When the meat was tender I removed it from the pot and glazed it with a tart Orange marmalade, brown mustard and brown carbohydrate glaze and wrapped in foil and put it in the oven. Then I strained the goop, and so added the potatoes and carrots and a stick of butter. I cooked the cabbage (I used savoy cabbage) in a separate skillet, braising it in the broth with butter until cooked but still crispy. Fabricated a Horseradish sauce of 3/four sour foam, ane/4 horseradish, 1 tlbs stale chives and the juice of 1/2 lemon. This recipe will print anyone you serve it to.
08/10/2008
Skilful recipe. The corned beef is really cracking when served topped with a horseradish dressing. ane/2 cup mayo, 1/2 cup sourcream and horseradish to sense of taste.
03/12/2009
This has been my standard recipe for years. I take found one thing that takes it to the tiptop. Afterward the corned beef is done cooking I remove it from the pot or crock pot and top it with a glaze of mustard and dark-brown sugar. Y'all can mix information technology to your liking. I make a lot and let it baste down all the sides. I then put information technology in the oven until information technology is heated through and the brown sugar is dissolved. And then slice and relish.
03/xiv/2012
I concur with others...skip the crock pot...the old fashioned way works best. I similar to cook the corned beefiness, remove from water and wrap in aluminum foil to keep hot. Then I strain the water to get out the peppercorns and re-use to melt potatoes, carrots and cabbage. This way you don't bite into a big peppercorn hiding in the cabbage.
03/20/2007
Every bit per some of the suggestions, I used 2 cans of beer & 2 cans of beef broth instead of h2o and cooked it for 7 hours in the crockpot. I likewise added three cloves of garlic and an onion to the crockpot. I should have given the potatoes and carrots xc minutes. I merely allowed for 30 and dinner was quite late. Even my hubby liked information technology who swore he hates corned beef and has never liked cabbage - but he ate it all!
03/11/2012
this was fabled, outset I boiled the corned beef on superlative of stove in water, one guinness, one bay leaf, the spice packet, and ane shot of Jameson whiskey, I followed the advice of another review which said to glaze the corned beef for the last twoscore minutes with the one/3 cup brown sugar, 2tbsp melted butter, 1 tbsp prepared mustard, one/iii cup of ketchup, and 3 tbsp of apple cider vinegar, bake 40 minutes at 350degrees while the vegetables are cooking, cut the corned beef across the grain. Serve with soda staff of life. Information technology is soooo skilful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
03/02/2005
Just a note that may help in cooking this repast, Add together some Caraway seeds when you add the cabbage. It volition help to go rid of the gas that yous will probably go from eating the cabbage.
09/xv/2006
Traditional corned beef for St. Patrick's Day.. or any other time of the yr when you tin can't stand to take it just once! ***UPDATE: I fabricated this again this year and it was absolutely succulent, simply with these alterations: I used 1 tin can of Guiness, beefiness broth, and a h2o to boil the meat. In add-on to the spice packet, I added 2-3 tbsp. mustard seeds, whole blackness peppercorns, and three bayleaves. The cabbage took about 20 minutes to cook even when I turned upwards the temp (I took out the meat). I would recommend 2 heads of cabbage b/c I similar the cabbage. I used about an entire (save the few I snacked on while cooking) 1 lb. purse of baby carrots and 12 baby blood-red potatoes. I wouldn't omit the potatoes b/c they absorb a lot of the salt and you can end up with a really salty roast. Anyhow, this recipe is a great starting point, but with additions it tin can be awesome... and it was! Everybody gobbled information technology up on St. Patty's. Thanks!
03/17/2012
This was very skillful! The only change I made was to add 3 large cloves of chopped garlic. I also made a sauce for the brisket as mentioned past a member named Tracey. This is what she said... "I take the corned beef out and while the cabbage carrots and pot's are cooking in the liquid, I put the brisket in the oven for 30 minutes with this sauce that I combine on the stove until smooth. one/3 loving cup of brown sugar,2 tblsp of butter tlbs. of prepared mustard, ane/3 cup of ketchup, and three tblsp of apple cider vinegar. I combine these ingredients till polish, and so pour over the brisket while the veggies are cooking. 30 to 40 mins. at 350 will practise it. Hope you like information technology, all of my friends who hate corned beef will merely swallow mine!"... Tracey's sauce recipe was PERFECT!!! I'll make my corned beefiness like this from now on!
02/05/2013
Good, basic and functional - what I'd telephone call a reference recipe. I did mine in the slow cooker and added a bottle of Guiness Draught with enough water to cover. I cooked the cabbage separately in some of the cooking liquid. Reliable, just more instructional than a unique recipe.
02/17/2014
I'm Irish. VERY Irish. And this is my Get TO recipe for corned beef and cabbage. I only gave it iii stars, so why is information technology my Become To?? I gave it iii stars based on how it tastes equally-is. It's my Go To because it keeps the recipe uncomplicated. Here's the thing - you don't take to do anything fancy to brand amazing, over-the-peak corned beef and cabbage. People think information technology needs to exist complicated. Information technology doesn't!! The ONLY thing I added and it makes a HUGE deviation - 1/2 jar of McCormick Pickling Spice. I forgot this ingredient once and never volition once again.
05/04/2009
this is the all-time corned beef and cabbage i have ever tasted an perpared, subed beef goop for water and cooked veggies in broth......wow i couldnt cease eating. Thanks? LOL
03/17/2014
I followed the recipe exactly as written. Oh, except I changed a million things. By the fourth dimension information technology was finished, it was an entirely dissimilar repast. Loved information technology!
03/13/2011
I just fabricated this recipe tonight. I didn't modify a single thing! It WAS Awesome!!!
06/05/2013
Cutting off the large fat then cover the corn beefiness with beef broth Add peppercorns, bay leaf and onions to spice packet. Before adding the spice packet, you lot start bring the meat to a boil and skim the foamy stuff off the acme of the h2o.. cook meat @ l min. per lb Take the corned beef out and while the cabbage carrots and pot'south are cooking in the liquid, Add some Caraway seeds when y'all add together the cabbage. Glaze for brisket Put the brisket in the oven for xxx minutes with this sauce that I combine on the stove until smooth. 1/3 cup of brown sugar,2 tblsp of butter tlbs. of prepared mustard, ane/three cup of ketchup, and 3 tblsp of apple cider vinegar. I combine these ingredients till shine, then pour over the brisket while the veggies are cooking. 30 to forty mins. at 350 volition practice it.
12/28/2009
Hi, quick question. If I want to finish this in the oven do I shorten the original cooking time? Thanks
02/28/2011
Oh my gosh! Wonderful. I prepared it right by the recipe. My family of five gobbled up a 2.vii pound corned beef brisket in no fourth dimension. There wasn't much conversation at this meal, except that they were begging me to cook this again fifty-fifty before we were done eating. Volition definately cook once more!
03/xi/2009
My husband and I enjoyed this very much. Our kids had never eaten Corn beef, so they were on the contend, however for them. They loved the veggies very very much. I placed this in the crock pot/slow cooker all day. I used a 6qt on loftier. My pot was really full so the cabbage I placed in 1 1/2 hours out from serving dinner. All the veggies were soo good. The meat was very tender, flavored well and soo easy to separate for slices. Will make this over again for hubby and I.
09/08/2008
This is the aforementioned recipe my grandma taught me but to salvage fourth dimension, I put everything in the crock pot.
eleven/03/2002
Wonderful recipe! I would definately make this again. Notwithstanding, I would alter a couple of things. First, if the corned beef you buy has an excessive amount of fatty on the underside as many of them practise, trim the fatty. Likewise, do as one reviewer suggested, add beef goop instaed of water. I as well added an onion. Loved this easy to make recipe. Try information technology.
03/fourteen/2009
I made this ane last week and it was really good. I rinsed off the beef when I took it out of the package, and so proceeded as directed. I used regular potatoes, peeled and cutting in half instead of the red potatoes and they worked fine. I cooked the potatoes and carrots about thirty minutes before adding the cabbage. The meat was very tender and the veggies cooked just right.
03/18/2009
I wait all twelvemonth for this repast merely I had never made it myself until this year. A friend gave me the communication to pull the beef out of the pot when you put the veggies in, sprinkle dark-brown sugar on top and bake it at 350' until the veggies and cabbage are washed. Information technology was And so expert! Please attempt this!!!
01/08/2014
Followed exactly and information technology was fantastic. Married man wants more!
03/14/2009
I don't fifty-fifty like corned beef and cabbage and this was a hit! For the nigh part, I stuck to the recipe. Just added ane bottle of Harp beer, a Tbs. of minced garlic and a dash of celery salt. I did not include the potatoes with the meat considering nosotros were having another potato sidedish, just I recollect they would've been adept cooked in the pot. I cooked a 3 1/4lb. piece of meat for about 4 hours and it shredded beautifully. Cracking recipe!
01/09/2012
Xclnt, like shooting fish in a barrel dish! fabricated this a few times. I use a VERY big pot. I added 1 tin of light beer, and about 2 cups of apple juice. Then filled the residual with h2o to encompass meat. 45mins earlier brisket should be washed, I add carrots and potatoes. 20mins earlier everything is washed, I added the cabbage. YUM-O!
12/10/2006
OH MY! So much for post-obit the recipe. While my beef was simmering in 8 cups of water for 2.5 hrs, I took a siesta. The h2o all evaporated and the beef burned. Time to start once more. A glass of vino for me, or mayhap two, a fresh brisket, and half once more as much water.
06/16/2008
I have been making this for years. I besides add together a bottle of beer. I also use new potatos and celery, carrots, onion, fresh snap peas, fresh garlic, black pepper corns, mustard seed, dill seed, and lemon juice. Cerise pepper and bell pepper. I tin swallow this for days. I don't trim the fat. The fat is 1 of my favorite parts. This is 1 of the very few recipes I make that I am not fatty witting most. This and steaks. I can consume this soup for days 6 times a mean solar day!
03/17/2011
This is the classic training. I follow this procedure with a few changes: Cut the cabbage into large chunks and steam it separately until tender. Add equally much butter equally your nutrition will permit :) and season with common salt and pepper. When the corned beef is fully cooked, remove information technology and put it in a baking dish. Mix mustard and chocolate-brown sugar to make a very thick paste. Spread the paste on height of the corned beefiness. Put the meat under the broiler until it bubbling and crisps. Past cooking the cabbage separately and calculation the brown saccharide paste you'll enjoy more variety of flavors and you lot'll get a lilliputian crunch for texture.
02/26/2007
This was my beginning time making Corned Beef and Cabbage and this recipe is definitely a keeper. I volition exist making this again! I used the red flat corned beef, turnip, peeled potatoes (both red and Russet - couldn't tell the difference in taste), carrots, cabbage, white onion. My corned beefiness did non come w/ a spice bundle, merely when the meal is complete, the taste is still to die for. I added a piffling salt and pepper and a fleck of garlic, simply there is actually no need to.
03/19/2004
I'm a rookie when information technology comes to cooking. In fact, I have never cooked a consummate meal before attempting this recipe. On St. Patrick's day, my wife was working and I wanted to surprise her with a corn beef and cabbage dinner when she got home. The directions were easy to follow and the finished product was outstanding! I besides made corn breadstuff (my outset attempt at baking bread). I used chicken goop instead of just h2o as some others had recommended. The carrots and potatoes were really practiced as well!! I was really surprised how delecious the meal turn out and then was my wife!!
10/04/2005
Love this recipe! Other reviewers advise adding beef broth, peppercorns, etc., just I think this comfort food is best made simply, just like practiced 'ol mashed potatoes. Speaking of potatoes, if you decide not to use them, expect the broth to exist pretty salty since the potatoes absorb a good amount of salt during the cooking process. Also, for those with kids, brew the potatoes and carrots together (or separately) with a fork, add a petty butter, and they'll probably love it! Mine did (age half dozen and 7).
03/14/2011
used four.7lb beefiness, ii heads cabbage, 7 med yellowish taters . Cooked beef 3hr20min,added taters melt one hr, added cabbage . cooked 30-35min till cabbabe tender but crispy ! great !!!
10/11/2002
YUM! I added extra peppercorns & beef broth instead of water (as others suggested), classic cb&c, we love it! My picky girl ate left over craven with the potatoes & carrots ;)Thanks Laria!
12/25/2006
if y'all want to add a bit more than color and peradventure a hint more sweetness to this recipe, endeavor ruddy cabbage with the green, it is wonderful.
03/16/2012
Adding a shop bought spice mix and adding it to water is not a recipe.
01/01/2011
Simply perfect! Fifty-fifty hubby liked it and he is not a veggie lovin guy so I wasn't certain nearly the cabbage only he went back for thirds!
12/18/2013
OMG This is so tasty it's to die for! Y'all don't demand Any other seasoning other than the footling packet that comes with the beef, non even common salt. The meat itself does all the seasoning and flavoring for yous. Don't be scared virtually how your cabbage will taste! Another little tip - ADD SOME ONIONS. I dearest onions and it makes everything that much meliorate!! :) My family unit devoured this pot!
08/17/2002
Somewhat tasteless - won't cook again.
02/01/2011
I love this recipe every bit it is, but I found making 2 minor modifications makes it even better (at to the lowest degree in my family'southward opinion). Offset, add together a half-cup or then of cooking sherry to the pot before starting. Second, replace the cabbage with 1-i.5 pounds of Brussels sprouts. It makes for a nice twist on an onetime favorite.
01/28/2011
Fabulous! Like a another reviewer, I had always winged it when information technology came to corned beef & cabbage. I followed this recipe to a tee and absolutely everything came our PERFECT! Corned Beef tender and starting to fall autonomously - which I love - and the potatoes, carrots and cabbage were perfectly soft merely not soggy. From here on out, this will be THE recipe to use!
03/15/2010
This is amazing! I used another reviewers tip and used one can of beer and iii big cloves garlic pressed through my garlic press (and then enough h2o to encompass beef and adding the spices from the parcel) and added 1 whole stick of butter at the same time I added the cabbage. I besides cut my potatoes because they were fairly big red potatoes and that worked well. Great Groovy Neat Recipe!!!!
03/eleven/2011
I prepared this just like the directions and my family unit only loved information technology!!
03/09/2014
Everything is okay until the total lack of onions. One onion, white or yellow, medium small per person.
03/fifteen/2011
Actually, real Irish don't fifty-fifty consume this. It's an American Irish gaelic immigrant tradition from when this cut of meat was most the cheapest available. the poorer they were, the less that went into information technology. They also didn't have the nice piddling spice packet either. Anyway, add the carrots, garlic, and if you feeling sassy, add broccoli tips. boil with a guinnes
12/31/2012
This recipe is perfect. I had never fabricated corned beef before because I did not like information technology equally a child, but my husband is Irish and really missed information technology. I tried this skeptically -- We all loved it! Now my kids request it all the time. The all-time part about information technology is that the cabbage just cooks through, so it is non mushy and tasteless. It has a wonderful, fresh season and is very like shooting fish in a barrel to brand.
03/12/2009
We did non care for this at all! The veggies were not done enough & the cooktime wasn't long enough to disperse the flavors. I retrieve information technology needs to exist cooked all twenty-four hours.
03/15/2010
I made this Lord's day, it was to die for. My husband only loved the beef, said it was the best he has always eaten. Thanks
04/04/2011
made equally written. It was good. The second time I added a trivial red wine and water, 3 bay leaves, 3 whole cloves of garlic, 2 stalks celery,3 carrots,ane/two onion, and spice packet. Left the potatoes out. Added cabbage terminal hr of cooking. Turned out perfect!
01/01/2013
Perfect and easy! I tried corned beef concluding year in a pressure cooker, it tasted nil like this. This is like shooting fish in a barrel. I made it exact to instructions with a 3 lb corned beefiness. Even my family unit liked the carrots, and no ane in my family likes cooked carrots. Nosotros just voted to accept this on a normal rotation for dinner instead of just new years twenty-four hours and St. Patrick'due south day.
05/12/2009
This is the first time my corned beefiness came out great. Thank you for the recipe
01/21/2012
This is an excellent recipe! The simply other affair I add is an onion.
03/14/2009
Amazing. The pot I used was a footling minor, so information technology was a tight fit, just I made it work. Delicious carrots, potatoes, cabbage, and such tender corned beef. A fantastic recipe.
03/04/2003
This is a groovy recipe. Very easy, which is important. Using beef goop was a good suggestion, all the same the meat that I used could accept cooked a picayune longer and the cabbage was a little under done, probably 25 min would be amend than 15. But overall information technology was very tasty and the whole family loved it!
03/14/2007
We cook this recipe every year at our St. Patty'southward Day party (sans the potatoes, add together more cabbage), and our party grows every year due to give-and-take of mouth about the corned beef. Last twelvemonth we hosted over 100 people and went through 6 large crockpots of corned beef and cabbage.
05/21/2006
Groovy recipe! I used a giant roaster for this meal since nosotros similar a lot cabbage. This recipe is fool proof and always comes out perfect. I do put my carrots in with the meat cooking procedure since my family likes softer carrots and I add together the potatos and cabbage together and so you get no tough cabbage in the end. Thanks for the recipe!
03/14/2015
I have tried many recipes like this and they are all expert. I'm directing my comments to all the negative people out there. Exit information technology alone, everyone knows it is not an Irish dish It is a wonderful one pot meal Stay positive and enjoy. Have a wonderful family twenty-four hours enjoying this meal.
02/27/2011

"What's more Irish than a traditional recipe for corned beef and cabbage?" The answer is - lots of things! Corned beef and cabbage is not a traditional Irish dish. Built-in and bred in Republic of ireland, I was in my fifty'due south when I spent some fourth dimension in the US and was told that anybody eats corned beef and cabbage on St. Paddy's Day. I had never heard of it and I nevertheless have never tasted it. When I came dwelling from that trip I did inquire effectually, in case I somehow had missed this vital role of Irish tradition, but, no, I have withal to come across any Irish national who has actually eaten corned beef and cabbage. Further research has taught me that, in fact, Irish immigrants to America began eating corned beef, which they bought from Jewish butchers, considering of their new-found affluence. At domicile, in Republic of ireland, it was merely the very wealthy who could afford to eat beefiness. So, eating corned beef on Paddy'south Mean solar day is really an American-Irish gaelic-Jewish tradition.

Wow, I listened to the reviews. I added 10 pepper corns, three cloves of garlic, one bay leaf. My family mowed through it. This should not exist reserved for St Pats mean solar day. This is a earth class meal....

Proficient template for a superb classic dish. I highly recommend using a can or two low-sodium beef goop instead of water, which actually enhances season without oversalting the recipe. If y'all're a garlichead like me try tossing in five or vi cloves when yous start the meat, and mash them into the stock after they cook to tender.

Outset of all, let me state I am not a corned beefiness fan. I decided to cover my 12.5 % Irish claret in me on a whim this morning and make something in laurels of St. Patrick'southward Day. Stumbled upon this recipe with such rave reviews that I dashed out to the market in search of a 3 lb corned beef and some soda bread...got Guinness every bit an impulse item to authenticate the meal while I was at it, and glad I did since I used the reviewers suggestions and gave upwardly two of the bottles for the pot. I warned my husband of nigh 25 years that if we didn't like the meat, in that location were plenty of veggies to sustain us. All I tin say is I can no longer say I'm non a corned beef fan...though and so far I merely similar my own recipe (run into how chop-chop something I acquire becomes my own--information technology's a Greek thing)! I added ane whole onion, three cloves of garlic (I love garlic and next fourth dimension I'll add more than), 1 TBSP Allspice and doubled the carrots and cabbage. Not large into potatoes, but the family is, and potatoes are just so Irish. Simmered 3 hours, then added potatoes for xv min, and then the carrots for another fifteen then cabbage for the last 15. I heated upwards purchased Irish Soda Breadstuff while the cabbage simmered. I served the meal on a large platter with the meat against one side of the platter, with the veggies surrounding the meat--I put the potatoes on i side of the meat, the carrots on the other side and the cabbage between, surrounding the meat for a colorful presentation. The adults were given Guinness Bottles a

Delicious. We enjoyed this very much. I had no carmine potatoes, so I used 6 medium-sized russets I had already, peeled and quartered. I layered the potatoes and carrots on the lesser of my crock pot and put the meat on top. My cabbage did non fit in my crock, so I laid it on top of the meat. I filled it halfway with water, threw in a few beef bullion cubes and let it cook. Equally the crock filled with juice I pushed the cabbage down a bit. I cooked it on high for 5 hours or so and everything was great. Loved it. I don't think it needed the beef bullion. Very flavorful broth!

This was my beginning fourth dimension making corned beef, and I will definitely be making it again! The process is then piece of cake, if somewhat lengthy, merely the results are well worth it. I used half of the seasoning package included in the package with the meat, and too took the recommended advice of using beef goop as the cooking liquid. When it was done cooking, I plant the meat to exist likewise salty, so I took the advice of some other user and fabricated a simple glaze out of brown sugar, mustard, butter, ketchup, and apple cider vinegar, and then put the beefiness in a small-scale baking pan and baked it at 350 for half an hour while the veggies cooked in the on the stove. I was a little skeptical, just the upshot was an extremely tender, salty-sweet brisket that went perfectly with the vegetables.

It got my 6 year onetime girl to eat cabbage. My wife and two year old son are not too neat on corned beef, simply the kid and I love corned beef (especially common cold leftovers). This recipe was uncomplicated and perfect. I haven't added cabbage since my girl was born, just I thought I would give information technology a shot. I did add together onions, fresh garlic, extra mustard seed, and celery, just on the whole it would take been like shooting fish in a barrel and delicious regardless. I also cutting upwardly the carmine potatoes and carrots and boiled them off 10 min earlier calculation the cabbage, then boiled off the cabbage for 10 min, then returned the rested beef to the pot for another 10-15 min on simmer. Anyway you do it, information technology'southward easy and delicious. Volition add mushrooms adjacent time, I call up. If yous cut your potatoes don't overcook. I also serve with Southern way cornbread.

This recipe worked well. I did cook my brisket in water and the veggies turned out but a bit bland. Next time I will attempt using beef broth every bit suggested past other reviewers. All in all a proficient recipe that I will use once more.
